Stars unlock side businesses; cash alone is not the whole gate. This guide explains how to expand without inventing fake Star thresholds or upgrade math.

Why diversification matters

Route 66 travelers need more than a meal. Each business adds another income channel, another place for speed upgrades to shine, and another reason cars linger on your lot. Diversification also supports the rival fantasy—Victor Steele feels less oppressive when one sabotage beat cannot flatten your only revenue stream.

Global Workshop cards amplify whatever you have opened (Workshop Cards), so unlocking a second and third business multiplies the value of Crystals and Hammers you already spent.

The business roster

Drive-thru (food core)

Your forever foundation. Tap to serve burgers, fries, shakes, and coffee. Upgrade ordering counters, hire order crew, and shrink wait times. Express Kitchen is the speed fantasy for this lane. Until the drive-thru is stable, new buildings just create more taps you cannot keep up with.

Motel

Overnight stays turn highway traffic into longer-value visits. Fast Check-In is the listed speed tool—prioritize it when motel queues or turnaround feel slow. Motel income pairs well with offline sessions because stays continue while you are away, provided offline earnings are functioning (Offline Earnings).

Restroom

High-turnover amenity income. Turbo Cleaning keeps the loop moving. Restroom upgrades are easy to underestimate; travelers stop whether or not they book a room.

EV charging

Modern Route 66 fantasy: charge vehicles while families grab food or snacks. Charging adds a “dwell time” business that complements quick food tickets. Feed it traffic upgrades (roads, signage, visitor magnetism) so stalls are not idle.

Convenience store

Impulse goods between meals and fill-ups. The store shines when the lot is already busy—do not open it into an empty highway. Stack it after food throughput and at least one other amenity when Stars allow.

Stars are the unlock key

The store listing is explicit: collect Stars to unlock new side businesses. Practical habits:

• Read every Star reward screen—know which business is next.
• Do not dump all cash into vanity drive-thru cosmetics when you are one Star short of a motel.
• After an unlock, spend early cash on that business’s throughput and its matching speed upgrade (Express Kitchen / Fast Check-In / Turbo Cleaning) before returning to pure food min-maxing.
• Keep Safe-O-Matic ready so multi-business cash collection does not become a chore.

If a Star event coincides with Victor sabotage, stabilize first, then claim or spend Stars with a clear head.

Suggested expansion mindset (not a rigid order)

Because exact Star costs can change, use goals instead of a brittle sequence:

1. Stabilize food until queues are manageable.
2. Unlock the first amenity Star offers (often the one that best matches your current traffic).
3. Automate collection so two businesses do not double your tap tax.
4. Open the next Star business that covers a different traveler need (sleep vs charge vs snacks vs restroom).
5. Invest in roads, signage, visitor magnetism whenever the lot looks empty relative to your upgrade level.
6. Feed Workshop cards so global bonuses scale across the growing stop.
7. Prestige only after a flat income plateau (Prestige).

Arizona → Texas and content depth

A recurring player complaint is getting stuck expanding from Arizona toward Texas, or finishing early regions only to see “in later updates” style walls. Separate three failure modes:

• Keep an eye on offline behavior after adding motel or chargers—more businesses should mean better away-from-device piles if the idle system is healthy.

Seasonal events and expansion

Limited-time events and seasonal challenges can distract from Star goals. Use events for bonus currencies when the timer is short, but do not miss a Star unlock you were one session away from claiming. After the event, return to the expansion checklist above.
